Sintonia: Belquer & Dende

Dende & Belquer.jpg

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED, iMPeRFeCT IS CLOSED FOR NOW DUE TO THE HEALTH CRISIS..

With the utmost pleasure we share with you this modest banquet. It was done with no previous preparations, instructions, directions, rehearsal or combinations of any sort. Instead it was driven purely by love and the desire to sonically fuse our souls. This project has been matured in our hearts and minds for more than one year of casual meetings, birthday parties and small social gatherings.

All this time aside from huge differences we've discovered much more in common than we both anticipated. Dende Macêdo comes from Brazil’s Northeast, Daniel Belquer from the South. Dende is a master in magically turning everyday objects into music totems, sculptures of sound and beauty where we least expect to find it. Belquer comes from garage science and technology, creating his tools from combining computers and electro-electronic keyboard instruments with a vast vocabulary drawing from many music traditions worldwide. They both meet in Brazilian roots. They both found love and respect for each others' rituals and traditions. As diverse as they are, they are the living proof that a more brotherly humanhood is possible. High end technology and a broken blender, 18th century counterpoint and Afro-Brazilian chants, analog oscillators and kitchen sinks.

Tickets: $10 suggested donation at the door

Daniel Belquer is an intermedia artist, musician, haptic artist, originally from Brazil and living in the US since 2014. Upon moving to the States, and after working in New York as Director of Special Projects at Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center and directing a number of Intermedia shows, conducting workshops and acting as a guest lecturer on a few universities he embarked on a journey with the California based company Not Impossible Labs to create a better live music experience for the deaf. After years of development he has come up with a solution that actually creates an inclusive experience for all called Music:Not Impossible, approved by the likes of Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer.

Dendê Macêdo is a percussionist, singer, composer, bandleader, teacher, and multi-instrumentalist. He’s been a professional musician since the age of 14, when he appeared in the frontline of Timbalada, Carlinhos Brown’s superstar percussion ensemble. Since 2001, he’s been developing his solo career, splitting his time between the US and Bahia and working with his folkloric group Ologundê and his flagship band Dendê & Band. Dendê & Band have recently performed at venues such as the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles; the KW Latinfest in Ontario, Canada; the Penang World Music Festival in Malaysia; Summerdance in Chicago and the Chile Pepper Fiesta at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. His folkloric group Ologundê has performed at major performing arts centers and festivals throughout the US and toured Greece as part of the Cultural Olympiad. Dendê currently teaches regularly in the Philadelphia area and provides workshops, clinics and residency programs throughout the US and Brazil.
