A Language of Philadelphia

Join us as we connect with the new poet laureate of Philadelphia, Raquel Salas Rivera, alongside poetry and prose writers Kourtney Fullard, Lorraine Rice, and Maleka Fruean in readings fluent in the many languages of Philadelphia. Language is literal and metaphorical.

What can our words, stories, and discourse create in Germantown and beyond to transcend and shift the limits of literary boundaries?

There will be readings, art, reception, and conversation. Please feel free to bring drink/food for our reception and thoughts and hearts for our afterwards gathering.

"i ask her,
with my mayagüez voice,
how can one live
with so much pain that stops
mid-motion here
in motion, wanting
finally to not have to
dream oneself different,
knowing that this place
has names?"

from "eclipse/eclipse" by Raquel Salas Rivera
